Maximum out-of-pocket limit

Maximum out-of-pocket limit is the maximum amount that an insured individual or an insured family would have to pay in a given year for the share of the cost of covered medical expenses . Once a maximum out-of-pocket limit is reached, the insurance company (the insurer) pays all additional covered medical expenses for the year, up to the plan's limit.
